Approximately 600 special needs children attended the Special Kids Day and Tour at the Humble Rodeo & BBQ Cook-off on Thursday, February 2 from 10:30 a.m. to Noon in the Humble Civic Center’s Pavilion.

Special needs children from Humble ISD were provided with lunch, a red commemorative T-shirt and fun activities including meeting and, in some cases, petting the stockyard animals, taken on a tour of the pavilion to see all the animals, getting their faces painted and were entertained by a rodeo clown.

The Rotary Club of Lake Houston Area (formerly Humble Rotary) has supported Humble ISD’s Special Kids Day at the Humble Rodeo since it was founded by Rotarian Glenn Redmon and his wife, Karla, thirty-six years ago. The Rotary Club maintains a fund in Redmon’s name to provide financially for this annual event and supplies Rotarian volunteers to help out.

Rotarian volunteers help by packaging lunches for the kids, manning the registration table, sorting and distributing T-shirts to the kids and monitoring the face-painting station. Rotary volunteers included Juan Aybar, Dr. Roger Brown, Sonia Garcia, Pat Guard, Debbie McDonald, and Kathleen “Kat” Sison.

Rotarian Pat Guard said, “It was bitter cold, but the kids had a great time.” Ms. Guard provided all the photos shown here courtesy of The Forest Image magazine except one. The selfie photo of Rotarian Kat Sison included fellow Rotarians Dr. Roger Brown, Sonia Garcia and two FFA kids.
