The Tournament of Roses chose 23 floats to be awarded official honors in the 134th Rose Parade. The awards recognize excellence in a variety of categories and specifications. Scores are based on criteria such as creative design, floral craftsmanship, artistic merit, computerized animation, thematic interpretation, floral and color presentation, and dramatic impact. This year’s parade theme was “Turning the Corner”.
Rotary volunteers help to build the float by attaching the flowers and seeds used on the float in the days prior to the parade.
The Rose Parade route is 5 ½ miles long. The first parade was in 1890 and is held on the city streets of downtown Pasadena, California.
