Mr. David Kniess of Kingwood High School Ist eine engagierte Person und Erzieherin, die das Leben verändert. Mr. Kniess was recognized as one of two educators to receive the Sterling Shining Star Award of 2016-17. Sterling Shining Star of the Year is an annual honor program that recognizes and rewards school district educators/employees.

Mr. Kniess is also responsible for the German Club at KHS. His students have won the Texas State German competition four years in a row. And he was just named teacher of the year for 2016/2017. He makes language and culture come to life.

Kniess was nominated by the Rotary Club of Humble for the work he does to support Youth Exchange programs.  He has inspired over 10 students to study abroad in countries all around the world. He leads the school’s German club, takes students to state and national competitions (where they usually win!), coordinates an annual student trip to Europe, supports his fellow teachers, and inspires young people to greatness.  He is the kind of teacher you hope your child or grandchild has at least once in a lifetime.
He was surprised at an end of the year faculty luncheon with an award ceremony.  When Dr. Joan Terry, Chief Education Officer, of Sterling National presented Kniess with a check for $5,000.00 he was beaming.  He told us all, “I was just hoping to win some Expo Markers at this year’s bingo game!” He went on to express how much he appreciates the award and the support of faculty, students and the community.

KHS Principal, Dr. Ted Landry, was also awarded a check for $5,000.00 for the school.  Schools that wholeheartedly support educators are equally deserving of recognition.

Humble ISD Superintendent Dr. Fagan and past Superintendent Dr. Sconzo were in attendance, as was Jennifer Mutchler of the Rotary Club of Humble.

A million thanks to the club! All of the comments and support we threw behind him made this award possible.  We truly change lives in so many ways.  Mr. Kniess will be invited to a club meeting this summer.
