This update was sent to Bill Davis from Rotary Global Scholar Chris Wong - Chris was a Rotary Global Scholar studying at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine on a $30,000 scholarship funded by Rotary District 5890 in Texas with host club Enfield Chase in London and International partner Pasadena Club in Houston. Chris is returning to Texas to finish his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine.   Note: Bill is a Rotary Cadre Technical Advisor and a member of the Rotary Club of Lake Houston Area.

Hello everyone!

Extremely thrilled to share the Match Day update: I'll be staying at Baylor and Texas Children's for my combined internal medicine/pediatrics residency! Of everything I love about Houston, what really made it a top choice were the patients we serve: the veterans at our Houston VA, kids from all over the world at Texas Children's (#2 in the nation), and Houstonians of all walks of life. And of course, I'll get to remain in touch with Rotary District 5890!

It's been a while since my last update, but with both my MSc project and residency application submitted, I'm finally able to take a step back to reconnect with friends and colleagues. I most recently returned from Washington D.C. for a brief visiting student rotation at Children's National Medical Center focused on pediatric health equity and policy.

Our program included morning seminars by clinicians and policy experts as well as afternoon site visits to the American Association of Medical Colleges, the Smithsonian museums, the American Enterprise Institute, and community health clinics. It was wonderful being in a denser, more walkable city again, with the early chills of autumn keeping my urban explorations comfortable.

Speaking of the seasons, it's been about 2 years since I first submitted my Rotary Scholar application to District 5890 and 1 year since moving to London for my graduate program. I'm now gearing up for interview season for combined internal medicine-pediatrics residency programs, following in the footsteps of former Rotary Scholar Samee Hameed. Interviews will take place virtually, but I have some travels planned this fall both for business and to visit friends - keep an eye out for my next set of updates and pictures!

Finally, LSHTM announced that spring graduation will take place at the end of March, and I am already looking forward to visiting London again! Funnily enough, it is the Monday after Match Day, when all of us graduating medical students will find out where we will practice - hopefully there will be an abundance of causes for celebration at that time of the year.

Best,
