Maria Jose Perez Lopez spoke at our Club on April 21st and at the District Conference on April 24
Maria Jose, the first college graduate form the Children of the Dump program begun by our Rotary Club (Frank Huezo and Skip Curry)Â received standing ovations from both our club and the 450 attendees at the District Conference Saturday morning.
Her wonderful and emotional story brought tears to both audiences.
At the closing banquet of the Conference and with a chorus of 24 exchange students Frank Huezo performed his "Children of the Dump" song.
Following Maria Jose's appearance at the District Conference five clubs agreed to participate in a District Grant project contributing $2,000 each to further the Rotary work in Nicaragua, funds that will be matched with $10,000 from District 5890 generating a total project of $20,000.
